Windows XP PPTP VPN Configuration
Before you begin you will need to know your user name
and password, the remote server IP address and the remote network file
server IP address. The Igaware box will need to be configured to allow
remote user access.
If you are unsure of these, contact your system administrator.

instructions
- From the Start Menu, open
the Control Panel. Then choose Network Connections
and select Create a new connection.
- The Network Connection Wizard
will appear. Click the Next button.
- Choose Connect to the network
at my workplace., and click the Next button.
- Choose Virtual Private Network
connection, and click the Next button.
- Type Server (or whatever
you want to call the connection) in the name field for this connection.
- Choose Do not dial the initial
connection, and click the Next button.
- Type the remote server IP Number
in Hostname field, and then click the Next button.
- If you want this connection to
be made available to all users on your network, check Anyone's
use, otherwise check My use only. Then click the Next
button.
- Check the Add a shortcut to
my desktop if you desire. Click the finish button.
- In the Connect VPN dialog box,
enter your username and passwordand
click the Properties button.
- Click on the Security Tab. Select
Typical settings, Require secured password, and
Require data encryption.
- Click on the Networking tab. Set
the Type of VPN server to Point to Point Tunneling Protocol
(PPTP).
- Check Obtain an IP address
automatically and Obtain DNS server address automtically.
Click on the Advanced button.
- Check Use default gateway on
remote network if you want to access the web via the remote
server or leave it unchecked to access the web using your local
connection. If you are unsure leave this unchecked. Click the
OK button.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Connect button.
When connected you will see a connection icon in the bottom right-hand
corner of your screen.
- From the Start Menu, open the Control
Panel. Then choose Network Connections and select Create
a new connection.


- The Network Connection Wizard will appear. Click
the Next button.

- Choose Connect to the network at my workplace.,
and click the Next button.

- Choose Virtual Private Network connection,
and click the Next button.

- Type TTUnet in the name field for this connection.

- Choose Do not dial the initial connection,
and click the Next button.

- Type the IP Number of your remote server
in Hostname field, and then click the Next button.

- If you want this connection to be made available
to all users on your network, check Anyone's use, otherwise
check My use only. Then click the Next button.

- Check the Add a shortcut to my desktop if
you desire. Click the finish button.

- In the Connect dialog box, enter your Igaware
username and Igaware password and click the
Properties button.

- Click on the Security Tab. Select Typical settings,
Require secured password, and Require data encryption.

- Click on the Networking tab. Set the Type of VPN
server to Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP).

- Check Use default
gateway on remote network if you want to access the web via the
remote server or leave it unchecked to access the web using your local
connection. If you are unsure leave this unchecked. Click the OK
button.

- Check Use default gateway on remote network.
Click the OK button.

- Click the OK button.

- Click the OK button.

- Click the Connect button. When connected
you will see a connection icon in the bottom right-hand corner of
your screen.

Assuming all goes well you can
now connect to the remote server:
- Establish an Internet connection.
- Connect the VPN.
- To access remote files on the server, simply go
into Windows explorer and open the remote file server address in the
format;
e.g. \\192.168.0.1
You should now see folders on the file server.
