Configuring Network Adapter Card Drivers

This document assumes the the Network Adapter Card is installed.

  1. Open the Windows XP Networking control panel by clicking the Start button and selecting Control Panel. If you see Switch to Classic View under the Control Panel heading on the left, click that text to switch to Classic View. Select Network Connections. Double-click the Local Area Connection icon in the resulting Network Connections window.

  2. Click on the Properties button.

  3. Select the Configure button and then the Advanced tab to get a window similar to the one below.

Depending on your Ethernet network adapter, you may not be able to check or change your settings. The card's vendor may not support manual selection of settings, or you may need an adapter utility.
  1. Adapter Advanced Options Check these settings to ensure that your speed is at 10 megabits per second, and you have half-duplex selected. Names for these values will vary for different adapters.

  • For this adapter, select the Media Type property, then choose 10 Mbps Half Duplex from the pull-down menu.
    1. Now click the OK button to return to the Local Area Connection Properties.

    Click Finish to complete the New Connection Wizard.
