Windows NT Workstation Configuration
Installation of networking software is a prerequisite
to accessing the web and email, as well as sharing printers and files
with other users. Use these instructions to install the correct network
components on a Windows NT workstation, connected directly to your computer
network. Before you begin ensure that you have:
- An Ethernet card
installed in your computer.
- A Patch Lead connecting your Ethernet adapter
to the Ethernet port in your office.
- An IP address, gateway
address, subnet mask, workgroup name and domain name
provided by the system administrator
- Internet software
such as Microsoft Internet Explorer for web browsing and Outlook for
email.
Installation Instructions
Open the Windows NT control panel by clicking
the button. Select settings, then select control
panel. Double-click the icon in the resulting Control Panel window
as shown.

If Windows NT Networking is not installed you will
receive a window as shown. If Networking has been installed you can
skip to Identification.
If networking has not been installed, click Yes
and you can begin the installation of Windows NT Networking
Identification
Select the tab to get the window below.
Click the
button to get the window below

- Select a name for your computer. This is the name that will be used
on the network to identify your computer.
- If you want to share files with other computers in a workgroup on
the network, click the Workgroup radio button and enter in the workgroup
name in the box beside it. This name identifies the "Network Neighbourhood"
that your computer will be associated with. This is merely a convenience.
By using the same workgroup name within your office, it will be slightly
easier to find co-workers computers and printers.
- If you are using roaming user
proflies click the Domain radio button and enter in the domain
name in the box provided.

Select the tab to get the windows below.

Installing the network components
- If the
is not
listed, then install
it.
Configuring the installed components
- Select the
component and click on the button.
Adapters
Select the tab to get a window
similar to the one below.

Installing
Click the button to install a network adapter.
Configuring
Select the component and click the button.
Note: You
will have to talk to the administrator of the Igaware Server to add
the new computer onto the system in order to access the Internet and
the File Server.
