Installation of networking software is a prerequisite
to accessing the web and email, as well as sharing printers and
files with other users. Use these instructions to install the correct
network components on a Windows 98workstation, connected directly
to your computer network. Before you begin ensure that you have:

- Select a name for your computer. This is the name that will
be used on the network to identify your computer.
- Select a workgroup for your computer. This name identifies
the "Network Neighborhood" that your computer will be associated
with. This is merely a convenience. By using the same workgroup
name within your office, it will be slightly easier to find
coworkers computers and printers.
- Select a comment for your computer. This name shows up along
side of your "Computer name" when others see your computer
on the network.
- Access Control
Select the
tab to get the window below.
This is really personal preference. By choosing "Share level
access control", your computer will behave like a Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 computer and you will not have to set up "accounts"
on your computer to allow others to use it.
