Windows 2000 VPN Client Configuration

Before you begin you will need to ensure that your remote computer has:

  • tcp/ip installed and configured
  • workgroup set the same as the remote network
  • an Internet connection
  • an internet connection (e.g. dial up account)

You will need to know your user name and password, the remote server IP address and the remote network file server IP address. The Igaware Server Appliance will need to be configured to allow remote user access.

If you are unsure of these, contact your system administrator.

  1. From the Start Menu, choose Settings. Then choose Network and Dial-up Connections and select Make New Connection.

  1. The Network Connection Wizard will appear. Click the Next button.

  1. Choose Connect to a private network through the Internet, and click the Next button.

  1. Type the remote server IP Address in Hostname field, and then click the Next button.

  1. Type in the name for this connection. Check the Add a shortcut to my desktop if you desire. Click the finish button.

  1. In the Connect dialog box, enter your username and  password and click the Properties button.

  1. Click on the Options tab. Check the Include Windows logon domain.

  2. Click OK and in the Connect screen enter the remote domain; this the same as the remote workgroup.

  3. Establish an Internet connection.

  4. Connect the VPN.

  5. To access remote files on the server, simply go into Windows explorer and open the remote file server address in the format;

    e.g. \\192.168.2.252

    You should now see folders on the file server.
